“Sexy smart lady”

he said. He’s so impressed by my life choices from what I drive and up and leaving workplaces. Haha. Is that supposed to charm my pants off and make me want to sleep with him? It doesn’t. We’ve done it before — several times. We even tried dating each other open and ‘exclusively’ a handful of times.

So what? We’re ’friends that talk and never see each other’. Why? I’m a mother. That’s the only thing that’s changed between us. He may flirt but I don’t even respond with anything suggestive or serious. Why play the game 20 year olds do? We’re in our 30s.

I’d be lying if I said I don’t like him. Obviously I do if I’m still talking to him after all this time. I never wanted to give him false hope. He was the guy I saw everytime I was conflicted over someone else. I never picked him though. He thought it was because he wasn’t enough. No, it’s because some things aren’t meant for you. We’re better off as ‘friends’.

glass one
I gave my mother
made a pile of leaves
shaped them in a heart
put them on top
each one of her kids
put one on her coffin
the day we said bye
the glass one
returned to me

I was supposed to be
married but fell
for a man with the last name
he was nothing more
but a thorn that cut himself
he said he fell for me
he said he loved his kids
he couldn’t stop drinking
and running from the cops

My husband gave me
one that resembled
‘beauty and the beast’
for Valentine’s Day
he said that’s because
a real one would die
the same thing I’ve said
about the glass one

Said I’d make ‘Rose’
my daughters middle name
not to be named after a thorn
my mother symbolically
though he saw something
nobody else living saw
who I am in nature

The tree

It’s not fall but the leaves are falling
off the tree in the middle of the field
it’s sunny but cold
it’s the end of June
I’m here
she’s not
she’s looking down upon me
asking me why I never listened
and if I gave up on my promise
I can’t answer her
her spirit is free
I lost mine to the devil

Attention-seeking status updates.

One day they are complaining about their day — the next day, something bad happens. We feel sympathy. The following day — it’s a gorgeous day at the beach and they’re happily in love. The final day — they talk about their achievements. It’s a never ending cycle.

Watch out — these people got smart. Instead of saying much about themselves and work, they keep quiet or post links to it on their wall. They are creating the perfect image of themselves, which means not making their self-gratification obvious. Every like and comment you give to them feeds their ego. Oh yeah, and that sweet picture of them playing in a cornfield with their dog — was planned out by the photographer.

Lastly — selfies. Many selfies. They seem to have a new profile picture up every week. If they have an instagram, their face is all over it.

In Real Life:

If you can answer yes to any of these questions, it’s a good chance they are:

Are the conversations more focused on them than you?

Are they obsessed with their appearance?

Do they have many shallow relationships?

Is the only time they want to see you/be seen with you is on their own time?

… If you know them online and in real life, your job is much easier.
